Responsibilities

As a Secretary with DOWEA, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of school administrative operations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Receiving phone calls and visitors and directing inquiries to appropriate staff members.
  • Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Arranging travel for school personnel.
  • Establishing, organizing, and maintaining records and files.
  • Maintaining time and attendance records for payroll processing.
  • Compiling information for administrative and technical reports.
  • Preparing and managing school documentation and official records.
  • Performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties unique to the school environment.
  • Supporting staff, students, and leadership with daily operational needs.
  • Ensuring confidentiality and accuracy in handling sensitive information.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following conditions:

  • Proof of U.S. citizenship.
  • Completion of a background investigation and suitability determination.
  • Eligibility for a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with childcare checks.
  • Participation in direct deposit for salary payments.
  • Willingness to serve a one-year probationary or trial period, if required.
  • Ability to obtain official passports and visas for overseas employment.
  • Compliance with DoD Civilian Personnel Management System regulations.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must meet Selective Service requirements.
  • Ability to meet Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) conditions for overseas assignments.
  • Commitment to working in a school environment serving children and youth.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following educational and experience requirements:

GS-05 Level

  • One year of specialized experience in administrative support, including scheduling, correspondence, and data compilation; OR
  • Four years of education beyond high school in business, secretarial, or technical studies; OR
  • A combination of education and experience.

GS-06 Level

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level, including:
    • Preparing correspondence using office automation software.
    • Maintaining office records such as payroll, leave, and attendance.
    • Compiling data related to school operations, personnel, or budgets.

Additional Requirements:

  • Typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute.
  • Compliance with federal time-in-grade requirements.
  • Evaluation of foreign education credentials, if applicable.
